clear: both; width:100%;\"><\/div><div class=\"kc-elm kc-css-29832 kc_text_block\"><\/p>\n<p>\nLos drenajes \u00e1cidos de roca (DARs) son mundialmente considerados como uno de los principales problemas ambientales causados por la miner\u00eda met\u00e1lica, por su acidez, elevada concentraci\u00f3n de metales pesados y de sulfato. Estos afluentes pueden contaminar recursos h\u00eddricos y afectar la vida acu\u00e1tica; adem\u00e1s, los metales pesados presentes en dichos afluentes pueden integrarse a las cadenas traficas y afectar al ambiente y a la salud p\u00fablica. El tratamiento de DARs puede realizarse mediante procesos pasivos o activos. Los procesos activos demandan reactivos qu\u00edmicos y\/o energ\u00eda, mientras que los pasivos usan procesos naturales, como son la gravedad y el metabolismo microbio. T\u00edpicamente, los sistemas pasivos son preferidos por su costo y bajo mantenimiento, pero no toleran elevadas concentraciones de metales, ni altos caudales de alimentaci\u00f3n. Por tal motivo, la combinaci\u00f3n de ambos procesos es el enfoque m\u00e1s apropiado para el tratamiento exitoso de los DARs.<\/p>\n<p>El objetivo de esta investigaci\u00f3n es dise\u00f1ar e implementar un sistema integral de tratamiento de los DARs provenientes de las actividades de miner\u00eda met\u00e1lica en el Ecuador, combinando procesos f\u00edsico-qu\u00edmicos y tratamientos biol\u00f3gicos a escala piloto. Dos sistemas de tratamiento f\u00edsico-qu\u00edmicos ser\u00e1n desarrollados y evaluados independientemente como procesos de per-tratamiento. El per-tratamiento I contemplar\u00e1 la adsorci\u00f3n de hierro trivalente y de metales en un sistema flujo tap\u00f3n empacado con un Tecnosol (suelo de la zona minera en combinaci\u00f3n con nanopart\u00edculas). El per-tratamiento II consistir\u00e1 en un proceso secuencias de neutralizaci\u00f3n, oxidaci\u00f3n, coagulaci\u00f3n-floculaci\u00f3n, sedimentaci\u00f3n y filtraci\u00f3n. El tratamiento f\u00edsico-qu\u00edmico con la mayor eficiencia de remoci\u00f3n de metales ser\u00e1 utilizado como tratamiento previo al tratamiento biol\u00f3gico compuesto de un biorreactor empacado con bacterias sulfato-reductoras (BSR).<\/p>\n<p>Las BSR mediar\u00e1n la producci\u00f3n de sulfuro en presencia de una fuente org\u00e1nica de carbono. Dicho sulfuro reaccionar\u00e1 con los metales pesados provocando la precipitaci\u00f3n de los mismos como sulfuros met\u00e1licos. El bioreactor sulfato-reductor ser\u00eda inoculado con un lodo local cuyo desempe\u00f1o fue previamente determinado. En las muestras de lodos se evaluar\u00e1 la concentraci\u00f3n de BSR y se realizar\u00e1n an\u00e1lisis microsc\u00f3picos y metagen\u00f3micos. Estos datos ser\u00e1n utilizados para estimar la diversidad y abundancia de microorganismos presentes en el biorreactor. El sistema integral f\u00edsico-qu\u00edmico-biol\u00f3gico a escala piloto ser\u00e1 alimentado con DARs obtenidos de zonas mineras en las provincias de Loja, Zamora-Chinchipe, Azuay y El Oro, que ser\u00e1n previamente muestreos y caracterizados en base a par\u00e1metros f\u00edsico-qu\u00edmicos. Este estudio proveer\u00e1 informaci\u00f3n para el dise\u00f1o de un sistema integral compuesto de un ore-tratamiento f\u00edsico-qu\u00edmico conectado en serie a un biorreactor empacado con BSR para la remediaci\u00f3n de DARs provenientes de actividades de miner\u00eda met\u00e1lica en Ecuador a escala piloto. Adicionalmente, se realizar\u00e1 un estudio sobre la composici\u00f3n microbiana responsable de la biorremediaci\u00f3n de los DARs. These tributaries can pollute water resources and affect aquatic life. Furthermore, the heavy metals these tributaries have can be integrated into the traffic chains and affect the environment and public health.<\/p>\n<p>The treatment of DARs can be carried out through passive or active processes. Active processes need chemical reagents and \/ or energy, while the passive ones use natural processes, such as gravity and microbe metabolism. Passive systems are preferred for their cost and low maintenance, though they do not tolerate high concentrations of metals nor strong feed flows. For this reason, the combination of both processes is the most appropriate approach for the successful treatment of ARDs. The objective of this research is to design and implement an integral system for the treatment of ARDs from metallic mining activities in Ecuador, combining physical-chemical processes and biological treatments on a pilot scale. Two physico-chemical treatment systems will be developed and independently evaluated as per-treatment processes. With the first one (I), there will be possibility to observe the adsorption of trivalent iron and metals in a plug flow system packed with a Tecnosol (soil from the mining area in combination with nanoparticles). The second one (II) will consist of a sequence processes of neutralization, oxidation, coagulation-flocculation, sedimentation and filtration. The physico-chemical treatment with the highest metal removal efficiency will be used as a pre-treatment to the biological treatment consisting of a bioreactor packed with sulfate-reducing bacteria (BSR). The BSRs will mediate sulfide production in the presence of an organic carbon source. This sulfide will react with heavy metals causing their precipitation as metal sulfides. The sulfate-reducing bioreactor would be inoculated with a local sludge whose performance was previously determined. In the sludge samples the concentration of BSR will be evaluated and microscopic and metagenomic analyzes will be carried out. These data will be used to estimate the diversity and abundance of microorganisms present in the bioreactor. The integral physical-chemical-biological system on a pilot scale will be fed with DARs obtained from mining areas in the provinces of Loja, Zamora-Chinchipe, Azuay and El Oro, which will be previously sampled and characterized based on physical-chemical parameters. This study will provide information for the design of an integral system composed of a physical-chemical ore-treatment connected in series to a bioreactor packed with BSR for the remediation of DARs from metallic mining activities in Ecuador on a pilot scale.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, a study will be done on the microbial composition responsible for the bioremediation of the DARs.
