This diversity effect\u00a0is stronger in tropical\u00a0streams than at higher latitudes. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-style: inherit;\">Litter decomposition is a crucial\u00a0process in stream ecosystems and plays a notable role in the exchange\u00a0of carbon\u00a0between the biosphere and atmosphere, implying potential feedbacks on climate.
