Mangroves are unique ecosystems that contribute to the wellbeing, food security, and protection of coastal communities worldwide. They provide vital ecosystem services, they are highly effective carbon sinks, they support a rich biodiversity and provide a valuable habitat for fish and crustaceans. They also act as a natural coastal defense against natural disasters such as tsunamis.
