Its objective is to provide students, scientists, and people interested in paramos management, an overview of the functioning of the paramo peatlands, and their current state of conservation. Additionally, in reviewing the first experience of comprehensive restoration of a paramo peatland in Ecuador, we want to provide a guidance on how to initiate similar programs in other parts of the country.<\/p>\n<p>This research program has been led in Ecuador by USFQ, with the scientific and economic support from the United States Forest Service (USDA) through the Sustainable Wetlands Adaptation and Mitigation Program (SWAMP). This publication was undertaken by the Mountain Ecology Group, the Freshwater Ecology Laboratory (LEA) and the Biosphere Institute of USFQ.
