The Rivers of the Andean-Amazon basins
On thursday 19th of September 2019, we were delighted to introduce the book “Los ríos de las cuencas Andino-Amazónicas: Herramientas y guía de invertebrados para el diseño de programas de monitoreo”.
This book was written with the purpose of raising awareness about the importance of Andean-Amazon rivers, their different type of ecosystems, diversity, uses and problems. The publication compiles knowledge gained from diverse range of research and years of management, teaching, monitoring and environmental education within the region. This initiative has been designed as a learning management tool for local communities, environmental managers and institutions willing to study and conserve the biodiversity, ecosystem services and the beauty of the Andean Amazon region.
The first part of the book presents a characterization of these ecosystems and a preliminary description of its diversity and their environmental and social issues. The second part compiles different tools and protocols of river and stream monitoring methods. It also suggests alternatives for interested people willing to design their own monitoring system according to the study area and the specific problem their rivers experiment. In the following section, the book offers a Freshwater Invertebrate Identification Guide with live animals images so users can identify them easily.
¡Many thanks to all those who collaborated in this initiative, Biosphere Institute and the authors!
