Launching of the Book “Paramo Peatlands in Ecuador”

Today, Monday November 7th 2022, we were delighted to introduce the book “Paramo Peatlands in Ecuador:                                                             ecology, conservation and restoration of a strategic ecosystem”.

This book summarizes the results of eight years of research on paramo peatlands in Ecuador. Its objective is to provide students, scientists, and people interested in paramos management, an overview of the functioning of the paramo peatlands, and their current state of conservation. Additionally, in reviewing the first experience of comprehensive restoration of a paramo peatland in Ecuador, we want to provide a guidance on how to initiate similar programs in other parts of the country.

This research program has been led in Ecuador by USFQ, with the scientific and economic support from the United States Forest Service (USDA) through the Sustainable Wetlands Adaptation and Mitigation Program (SWAMP). This publication was undertaken by the Mountain Ecology Group, the Freshwater Ecology Laboratory (LEA) and the Biosphere Institute of USFQ. We want to highlight what this book represents, both for its contribution to a subject about which little is known, and also for the effort of the authors in these years of research.

¡We thank all the people and institutions that accompanied us in this event!
