Interests

  • Taxonomy and Systematics of amphibians and reptiles with an emphasis on the families Craugastoridae, Colubridae, Dactyloidae.
  • Distribution models and priority areas for the conservation of threatened species.
  • Analysis of the conservation status of Ecuadorian reptiles.
  • Differentiation of cryptic species of reptiles with hemipenial characters and geometric morphometry.
  • Management and administration of museological collections.

Projects

  • Taxonomy and Conservation of rain frogs in the Paramo Foothills and Lowlands of Ecuador: In this project we intend to increase the taxonomic and systematic knowledge of the terrestrial frogs of Ecuador. Mainly with description of new species and the understanding of their phylogenetic relationships. The impact is related to conservation plans for species in priority areas, mainly in the Ecuadorian Andes.

  • Activity patterns of medium and large mammals in the eastern foothills of the Central Andes of Ecuador: this project aims to estimate the patterns and levels of activity of medium and large mammals in the eastern foothills of Ecuador. In this way, highlight the importance of ecological interactions on a landscape scale and that in the future allow understanding prey-predator relationships.
  • Linking comparative tools and mechanistic niche models to understand the consequences of size variation on species vulnerability to global change: This project consists of the development of an integrated framework for the study of phenotypic evolution, which will help to produce robust assessments of the impacts of global change. For this, the morphological, ecological, physiological and macroevolutionary diversification in Mediterranean green lizards will be explored.
