Interests

  • Ecology and conservation of high mountain ecosystems. Currently, his research seeks to characterize the diversity and functioning of páramo peatlands in Ecuador, their carbon dynamics, and the potential effects of land use and climate change on the integrity and health of these ecosystems. Additionally, his research group leads several initiatives for the restoration of high-Andean peatlands, trying to develop accessible and inexpensive methods to recover these mountain ecosystems

Projects

  • CARBON DISTRIBUTION PATTERNS IN PÁRAMO ECOSYSTEMS: this project seeks to quantify and characterize the spatial patterns of carbon storage in páramo ecosystems.
  • ECOLOGY, DISTRIBUTION, AND MAPPING OF PÁRAMO PEATLANDS: in this project we try to understand the distribution patterns and ecology of the plant communities associated with páramo peatlands. At the same time, we are developing a national map of páramo peatlands to understand their extent and distribution throughout the Ecuadorian Andes.
  • RESTORATION OF PÁRAMO PEATLANDS: in collaboration with local partners, we seek to develop accessible and effective methods for restoring the functioning and structure of páramo peatlands affected by anthropogenic activities
